I have not heard anything back from any of the people that I have tried to reach out to so I had to go to the website. I don’t know if it was just me but the website would not come up so I had to google it and so I hope that I was looking at the right website. At the website I learned a lot of information that I didn’t know. First I found out that a family of four with incomes below the federal poverty level – $23,550. I don’t see how any family of 4 can live off of that? I make more than that for just me, not much more but that’s just my income I also have my soon to be husband income too and sometimes I’m not sure how we make it every month.
I also learned that More than 16 million children in the United States, 22% of all children live in poverty level. After reading that it just makes me sad to think about it, on how these kids are suffering from food, education, shelter, health, cloths and more. I know that it’s not anyone fault but it’s just sad how there is not more support for these kids and their families. Last thing I learned was “the percentage of children living in low-income families (both poor and near poor) has been on the rise – increasing from 40 percent in 2006 to 45 percent in 2011. During this time period, the overall number of children of all ages increased by less than one percent while the numbers who were low-income and poor increased by 13 percent and 23 percent, respectively” (NCCP). I always imagined that this was a problem but I never knew how big of a problem it really is. It also surprised me on how big these numbers are, but I also know that the United States has been hard up lately with having jobs for people. Or on the other hand how there has been a lot of people who have been laid off and then can’t find work because there none out there. When you hear about this in the news I guess I don’t think about how much this does affect children.
